Our Top Picks  WITH KIDS The Children's Hour at Levitt Pavilion, Pasadena Wednesdays, 7:00pm June 24- August 26 Free Children's Entertainment! This popular series in Pasadena always manages to choose the perfect mixture of L.A. institutions (Bob Baker) and Toddler-pleasing popular artists (Choo Choo Soul). "The best children's entertainment around, featuring musicians, storytelling, sing-a-longs, puppeteers, and more!" All in a mini-Hollywood Bowl-esque pavilion. WITH KIDS Garden Concerts For Kids at the Getty Saturday-Sunday, Shows at 4:00 AND 5:00 August, 15-16, 22-23, 29-30 You knew that the museum that supplies umbrellas would supply...blankets for the concert! (I always forget mine...phew!) "Enjoy the best of children's music in the great outdoors at Garden Concerts for Kids, offering three weekends of kid-tastic, sing-along fun in the Central Garden. A variety of musical acts will perform at different locations throughout the (L.A.) Zoo each evening." Children are expected to stay seated in an intimate theatre setting. Evenings at Descanso Gardens: Summer Twilight Thursdays Thursdays, 5:30–8 p.m. July 2- August 6 "Stroll the Gardens every Thursday in July and August when Descanso is opened until 8 p.m. Check out the Gift Store which also will be open late. Farmer’s Market, adjacent to The Grove Every Thursday and Friday Night, 7:00-9:00pm Through September 11 Free! "L.A.'s most popular free summer music series returns to Farmers Market Thursday, May 28! Join us every Thursday and Friday evening from 7-9pm on the Market's West Patio and listen to some of the city's best musicians while enjoying delicious food and drink at your favorite place." Twilight Dance Series, Santa Monica Pier Thursdays, 7:00-10:00pm June 25-August 27 "The 25th Annual Santa Monica Pier Twilight Dance Series will begin on June 25 and will run through August 27, 2009. For ten Thursday evenings during the summer from 7-10pm, prepare to sing, dance, or just rock out to the best in Reggae, folk, rock and eclectic world music. Admission is and has always been free!" Summer Music Series, Downtown Burbank Thursdays, 6:00pm July 2- August 27 Join us for nine amazing nights of great music and dancing under the stars on the AMC Walkway (at Palm Avenue and San Fernando Boulevard) in Downtown Burbank. Festivities start at 6:00 P.M. with free dance lessons by Francisco and Stacey of The Dance Family Studio (thedancefamily.com). Then at 7:00 P.M., the two-hour concert begins and everyone hits the dance floor! FRIDAYS DATE NIGHT LACMA Jazz Every Friday 6:00 pm–8:00 pm April through November, FREE "LACMA's Friday Night Jazz series returns for its eighteenth season, celebrating the finest jazz musicians from across Los Angeles. LACMA Latin Sounds Saturdays, 5:00 –7:00 pm May through September "Relax in Hancock Park as world-renowned artists play the hottest sounds from Brazil, Argentina, Peru, Mexico, Cuba, and Los Angeles." This event takes place in the park adjacent to LACMA. A very family friendly concert! SUNDAYS Starlight Bowl, Burbank Sundays, Gates Open 6:00 July 4- August 16 "Nestled in the Verdugo Mountains, the Starlight Bowl is Burbank's premiere outdoor entertainment venue and has entertained generations of Southern California families. The Starlight Bowl's convenient location, great sight lines, grassy picnic area and comfortable seating are complemented by the high quality family entertainment presented on July 4th and each Sunday evening throughout the summer." World Music, Summer Sunset Concerts at the Fowler Museum Sundays, July 26-August 23, at 4:00pm The Fowler hosts a variety of world music performers at their global and eclectic museum.  Concerts in the Park, Warner Center Sunday evenings, start at 5:00 OR 6:00pm, check website June 7 through August 30 This is a very family friendly event, with a playground near the park's concert space. Hosted by the Valley Cultural Center (hey don’t laugh! Yes, there’s culture in the valley!) Concerts in the Park, Agoura Hills Sundays, starting June 21 "Summer Concerts In The Park are the perfect opportunity to enjoy Chumash Park with your family and friends with an evening of food, activity, and music!" Concerts at Polliwog Park, Manhattan Beach Sundays, June 28, 5:00-7:00pm "The Manhattan Beach Concerts in the Park series is an annual, summer-long event held each year at Polliwog Park. It runs from the last week in June through Labor Day weekend and has featured such artists as the Doo-Wah Riders and Lisa Haley and the Zydekats, as well as a host of other talented musicians. These performances are open seating and free to the public." Music By the Sea, Point Fermin Park, San Pedro Sundays, July 5-26, 12:00-5:00pm Described as Cape Cod in California, this beautiful seaside park is also home to the Point Fermin Lighthouse.
