Ode to the Bard Shakespeare+Kids= Culture You can do this! Are you craving culture? If you miss attending live theatre, bring baby and get your fix at a live performance of Shakespeare. These three companies all host FREE events throughout the summer at outdoor venues. Dress baby in pajamas ahead of time, bring the stroller, and put her to bed at the start of Act 3…and in case you have visions of a life on stage for your little drama queen, I also found a summer Shakespeare theatre program for kids! ![]() Shakespeare By the Sea Various times, July 11- August 8 "SBTS offers FREE performances all summer at various locations including San Pedro, Long Beach, Glendale, and Pasadena. These glorious outdoor performances take place in parks and outdoor amphitheatres. The perfect places to picnic, relax, and revel in the scene." Shakespeare’s “As You like It” : Two Dates / Two Locations Sunday, July 5 at 5:00pm Grape Arbor Park Corner of Canwood Street & Parkville and Sunday, July 19 at 6:00pm Calabasas Civic Center Amphitheatre - 200 Civic Center Way Free Parking & Admission “All the world’s a stage” - Come enjoy a classic comedy by William Shakespeare in our unique outdoor theaters. Limited seating available – first come, first serve. Free Parking & Admission. For Grape Arbor performance, lawn chairs and picnics are encouraged. Free Shakespeare in Barnsdall Park, The Tempest & Henry V Friday-Sunday at 7:30 pm June 26- August 30 Admission is free, donations gratefully received. Reservations are free to make and highly recommended. This is an amazing setting! Barnsdall Art Park sits atop a hill in Hollywood that you’ve never noticed before. Beautiful views and a peaceful setting above the craziness below. BAP is known for it’s Frank Lloyd Wright home, Hollyhock house, and hosts an AMAZING children’s art center including classes year round. This is a city landmark you will be glad to discover. Students will spend two weeks discovering Shakespeare through the best tools and techniques theatre has to offer. The LADC technique begins with the improvisational work of Viola Spolin and Agosto Boal, and expands on that to include a variety of physical and vocal disciplines - with the ultimate purpose always to invoke the creative spirit that exists in every child." |
