Saturday-Sunday, August 8-9
"Learn all about the making of lifelike machines in robotics, computer science, and biomedical engineering and how those machines can extend our capabilities and change our lives. Examine the differences between our species and the increasingly life-like machines that are beginning to populate our world. Visitors will explore the technical challenges of building lifelike machines and compare the attributes of those machines to those of living organisms"

ZAP! POW! BAM! Golden Age of Comic Books exhibitat the Skirball
Ends August 9th!
"ZAP! POW! BAM! examines the creative processes and influences that drove young Jewish artists to express their talents through the storylines and art of comic books. The exhibition features rare vintage artwork and books, 1940s Hollywood movie serials, and colorful interactive displays including a drawing studio, a newsstand, a vintage Batmobile ride, and stations that allow children to dress up as Superheroes or transform themselves via a quick costume change in a telephone booth."

Saturday, August 9, 9-11:30am
"Kids-Only Baking School: Baking Fundamentals. Kids aged 7-16 are invited to come and learn the basics of vanilla and chocolate cake baking from scratch. They will make the cake batter, bake their cakes, and then learn how to make the perfect frostings. Next comes the colored frosting and the sprinkles as the kids decorate their cakes, which they get to take home."  Class, $48

"The Actors' Gang is back with yet another unlikely Shakespearean romp for families. The Gang's Fourth Annual Summer-in-the-Park production transforms the bard's complex Cymbeline into the hilarious, kid-friendly CYMBELINE THE PUPPET KING. Performances take place outdoors in Culver City's Media Park (adjacent to the Ivy Substation) every Saturday and Sunday morning from July 25 through August 30 at 11 am...Music, merriment, and madcap adventures are in store. Not to mention a whole slew of puppets! It's fun for the whole family." FREE



Life on a Farm event at Vroman's, Pasadena
Start: Saturday, Augusy 8, 12:00pm
"Learn about what life is like on a farm. We're teaming up with Danny's Farm and Whole Foods to bring you a petting zoo, crafts, storytime and more! Support the farm's program for children with special needs by donating a “big book” (see store for details). This event will take place outside near Whole Foods."

"Kids can make either goat's milk or olive oil soap, choosing special color and scent to make the soap unique. Decorate a gift bag and it's the perfect gift! Cost is $6 per child."

Dollar Mondays at the Annenberg Beach House, Santa Monica
It really is a public beachhouse, it really is free to use...and the pool really only costs a dollar to enter on Mondays! Why we love it?  Small playground with beach toys to borrown, splash pad with WARM water to play in, brand new facilities, an on site cafe, and best of all for moms schlepping stuff...
a boardwalk that extends down to the beach!

"Dollar Splash Monday extended all day!
Swim for less every Monday, when pool passes are just $1 all day. Passes go on sale beginning at 8:30 am, with the pool open from 10 am - 6 pm. All members of your party must be present at time of purchase. Advance purchase not available for Dollar Splash Monday.

The Annenberg Community Beach House at Santa Monica State Beach is a new public beach facility open to everyone, no membership required."

Sizzling Summer nights, dancing at Autry
Sizzling Summer Nights at the Autry
Every Thursday, 6:30-9:00pm
July - August
Bring the kids! "Evenings at the museum are about to get a little hotter! The Autry's annual Sizzling Summer Nights outdoor dance party returns to Griffith Park with the scintillating sounds of live mambo, son, Latin jazz, and Afro-Cuban beats. Come early for dinner or a stroll through the museum galleries. The café opens with a taco and drink bar at 6:00." Special dance floor for children! $7 per ticket includes museum entry.



Twilight Night: Ringmasters and Circus Clowns at Kidspace Museum
Friday, August 21 from 5pm - 8pm
"Admission is just $5 to Pasadena's favorite family event! Kids and families join the circus with clown face paint, juggling workshops, a professional stil walker, carnival games, popcorn and more. BBQ dinners will be available for purchase."



Jim Gamble Puppets, Monday Morning Concerts for Children
August 24, 10:00 a.m. at the Madrid Theatre, Canoga Park
"Jim Gamble performs throughout the nation and around the world with a repertoire of original state-of-the art productions. Each show is comprised of unique puppet characters and staging and may include various puppetry styles – marionettes, rod puppets, life-size Bunraku-style puppets, hand puppets or shadow puppets."
